He was 65.

The cause of death was not given, but Tass said it was unexpected. Rashidof, a "prominent leader of the Communist Party and the Soviet state," was a member of the Presidium of the Supreme So viet of the U.S.S.R., Tass said. He became a non-voting member of the Politburo on Oct. 31, 1961, and has served continuously on the powerful body although he was never promoted to full member. He was a well-educated and articulate spokesman for the people of the Soviet Union's Central Asian republics.
