2B Sun-Sentinel, Friday, May 5, 1989 BULLETIN BOARD LW man charged in stabbing death Compiled by Sandie Picciochi taw- Vljl Tr sexual battery in 1985 and spent 3li years in jail, detectives said. He was released in August and checked himself into a drug rehabilitation center in Indiantown, investigators said. Department of Corrections officials lost contact with him a few months later. Detectives interviewed Serrano days after the killing. They later tried to talk to him again about the death and arrest him for failing to contact his probation officer, but could not find him.

He resurfaced recently and turned himself in to state prosecutors, according to an arrest affidavit Lugar's two daughters could not identify Serrano through photos or a live lineup. Investigators and relatives said the girls were too traumatized by the killing to remember the attacker. He was being held without bond in Palm Beach County Jail on Thursday night Serrano is accused of breaking into Lugar's mobile home west of Boynton Beach, cutting the phone lines and slashing and stabbing her repeatedly as her daughters, ages 6 and 8, watched, according to sheriff's reports. The battle began in the bedroom of the trailer and ended on the front lawn, where Lugar's battered body was found early that morning. Investigators immediately suspected Serrano, who had broken into Lugar's home twice before.
