He was 55. Mr. McBride died in the Florida Panhandle resort town of Destin on Wednesday of an apparent heart attack. i He discovered Alabama while the band was playing in clubs at Myrtle S.C., and was its producer and promoter until 1981. Michel d'Ornano, a French centrist deputy and three-time minister, died on Friday after being struck by a car outside of Paris, officials said.

He was 66. Mr. D'Ornano, one of former President Valery Giscard's most loyal supporters, died shortly after being hit by a car while crossing a street in the western suburb of St. Ootid, police said. During Giscard's presidency, Mr.

d'Ornano served as minister for industry and research in 1974-77, minister of culture and environment in 1977-78, then minister of environment and living in 1978-81. Katinka Loeser, many of whose short stories were infused with what a critic described as "autobiographical sketches of warmth and charm," died Wednesday in Norwalk (Conn.) Hospital. She was 77 and lived in Westport.
