Cahill, 90, first Miss America The Associated Press WASHINGTON Margaret Gorman Cahill, who became the first Miss America in 1921 and later said, "I really want to forget the whole thing," is dead at age 90. Mrs. Cahill died on Sunday of cardiac arrest and pneumonia at a nursing home in Bowie, Md. "Life has been extremely, I say extremely, kind," she said in a 1980 interview.

Mrs. Wojcik spent most of her life in the and photographs in the '20s and '30s. She made a few appearances as the first Miss America. But Mrs. Cahill, a widow since 1957, shunned the Miss America Pageant in later years, calling it "cheap" for not reimbursing her $1,500 in expenses for a 1960 reunion in Atlantic City.

Pageant officials labeled her "inactive" when she refused to attend pageant functions, including a 1995 news conference of several Miss Americas in New York. Still, Mrs. Cahill kept memo- New Brunswick-Bridgewater, NJ area, where she was born, until she moved to Boca Raton, FL 15 years ago. She is survived by her loving family, husband, Frank Wojcik of Boca Raton, FL; mother, Mary Weber Pierson of Highland Park, NJ; sons, Richard C. Isaacs of Highland Park, NJ and Robert P.

Isaacs of New Brunswick, NJ; daughters, The Reverend Victoria M. Isaacs of Seville, OH and Mary M. Reece of Plaino, TX; 5 grandchildren; and 1 greatgrandchild. She was pre-deceased by her first husband, Edward R. Isaacs in 1985.

A memorial service was held on Tuesday, October 3, 1995 at 2 PM at the First Presbyterian Church of Boca Raton. Interment will follow at the Boca Raton Mausoleum. The sea green chiffon and sequined dress she wore when she competed in 1922 hung in her upstairs closet and a two-foot engraved "beauty urn" from the pageant often held arrangements of daisies in her living room. Her grand prize, a three-footlong golden mermaid, was given to relatives. "Would I do it again? Oh, never in my life," she said. "I don't like publicity, good, bad or indifferent." She had no children.

Palm Beach after a lenghty illness.

Hector is survived by family in South America. He started working at the newspaper in September, 1988 in the building services department. One year later he transferred into the press department, preparing rolls of newsprint for splicing. Through hard work and determination, Hector learned all aspects of the printing trade and was promoted to a press operator in June 93. He later accepted the position of crew leader, managing a press crew for a period of time.

Hector touched the hearts of many fellow employees. His genuine kindness and thoughtfulness was felt by everyone who knew him. Hector always had a smile on his face. He spent many of his hours away from the job helping his friends make improvements to their homes. Hector will be greatly missed by everyone.
