Her family moved from Sicily to Manhattan in 1913 when she was 10. Jennings Tamarac Funeral LITHGOW Captain David USN 91, longtime Fort Lauderdale resident, died February 2, 1998, at his family's home in Stafford County, where he had resided since 1994. He had been a resident of Rio Vista Isles in Ft. Lauderdale since his naval retirement in 1961. His parents, Theodore Jane Lithgow had lived in Ft. Lauderdale sirice the early 1920's.

Lithgow was born in Henry Steele Commager, 95 Prolific historian's texts served generations of college students ed by the manual arts while watching her father, a wood carver, sculpt wood in his studio. However, her father never made an effort to pass on his trade to his daughter, said Millie Fazio, one of Mrs. Di Silvestro's sisters. "She was devastated because she couldn't learn my father's trade," Fazio said. Mrs.

Di Silvestro did not learn how to use her father's wood-carving tools, but she learned the meaning of detail. In 1946, in Brooklyn, she bought the first of about three dozen houses she would own during her life. She moved in, and if lack of a skill threatened to halt her creativity, she would teach herself. "She learned to paint and to hang wallpaper," Fazio said. When Mrs.

Di Silvestro moved to Pembroke Pines, she set her sights on making money. She bought a few lots in what is now the Pembroke Pines Village neighborhood, and began building one home at a time. She put Pittsburgh, PA, in 1906. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1929, where he was the captain of the swimming team. He then taught in public school in Spartanburg, PA, and at the Greenbrier Military School, Lewisburg, WV.

He was a commissioned artilofficer in the Pennsylvania National Guard to WWII. At the beginning of the war, he was commissioned in the U.S. Navy and assigned to intelligence duties on the East Coast. There he was involved in counterintelligence, antisubmarine warfare, and casualty recovery operations from U.S. and Allied maritime losses off the Virgina and Carolina coasts.

For his services during this period, Lithgow was awarded the Order of the British Empire (UK), Order of Balboa (Panama) and Southern Cross (Brazil). He served postwar assignments in Charleston, SC; Panama; Guam (where he achieved the rank of captain); Brooklyn, NY; Taiwan; French Indochina; and Japan. Retiring to Fort Lauderdale he pursued a lifelong interest in art, history, tropical plants and wildlife. When his only daughter, Cheryl Lithgow Conner, died in 1995, he endowed a collegiate scholarship in her memory. He was married to Marjorie Pfeiffer Lithgow (deceased 1952), and Clarice Horton Lithgow (deceased 1972).

Captain Lithgow is survived by his 3 grandsons, Marshall, Owen, and Gavin Conner, and his sonin-law, Albert Z. Conner, all of VA.
