He was a graduate of Miami Sr. High School, Class of 1947, and for 35 years owned and operated Cendy's Shoe Store which was located on Miracle Mile. Active in civic affairs for which he received many awards and accommodations, he was proud to serve his community by being an active member of the Coral Gables Citizens Mobile Patrol, and an active volunteer for many years for the Coral Gables Police Dept. Maurice was also a two term president of the Miracle Mile Merchant Association, a member of the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce, and a long time former member of Temple Judea. Mr.

"Simon tells it like it all was," Sinatra wrote in a book jacket blurb. In 1977, Mr.

Simon won a Grammy Award for best album liner notes his contribution to the collection Bing Crosby A Legendary Performer. Mr. Simon was hand-picked by Crosby to write the liner notes. Mr. Simon's late brother Richard was the co-founder of the publishing house Simon Schuster, and one of his nieces is singer-songwriter Carly Simon.

Mr. Simon was born in 1912, the son of a milliner. At Harvard University, he organized his own band before graduating in 1934 and taking a job at Metronome, a national music publication. During World War II, he played with Miller's Army Air Forces Band and recorded "V-Discs" for soldiers and sailors overseas, persuading top musical acts to volunteer. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Beverly Jean; a daughter; son; and three grandchildren.

He was a member of Gesu Parish and Inverness Club In Toledo for 50 years and Royal Palm Club in Boca Raton for 35 years and St. Joan of Arc Church in Boca Raton. He Is survived by his wife of 73 years, Helen Glowacki, his son Richard C. Glowacki (Barbara), Grandson David Glowacki (Lorl) Granddaughter Lara Martinez (Chris) and 5 great grandchildren. A private Mass will be said at Gesu Church in Toledo followed by a private family burial service in Calvary Cemetery.

The family requests that any tributes be in the form of contributions to the St. Francis de Sales High School Scholarship Fund in Toledo or the charity of the donors choice. THE ASSOCIATED PRESS NEW YORK Author and musician George T. Simon, who played drums with the Glenn Miller Band and wrote acclaimed books and liner notes on the swing era, has died.

He was 88. Mr. Simon died Tuesday at New York University Medical Center. The cause of death was pneumonia following a battle with Parkinson's disease, according to a friend, archivist Grayson Dantzic. In 1937, while working as a writer for Metronome magazine, he sat in with the fledgling Glenn Miller Band and played the drums as the band recorded its first half-dozen songs.

But he opted to stay in writing, and became Metronome's editor in chief in 1939. He held the job for 16 years, championing artists from Frank Sinatra to Ella Fitzgerald to Peggy Lee. His music career also included writing lyrics for Duke Ellington and Alec Wilder sometimes under the pseudonym Buck Pincus. As a writer, he worked for the New York Post and the now-defunct New York Herald-Tribune. BROWARD COUNTY ARGYROPOULOS Argyropoulos, Basile age 60 of Oeerfield Beach, Florida died February 13, 2001.
