PASTOR Rev. Ceorge Miller have completed the requirements that qualify them for two weeks of special training at the main camp of the Brigade, Northwoods, in the upper part of Michigan. The boys completed the four "adventure trails" as observers, explorers, trailblazers and guides. This qualifies them to advance into the fron-. tier trails where they can select from seven' different fields: airman, landsman, mariner, sportsman, woodsman and technician.

All selected the technician and will receive advanced training as such at the camp. They will now have to work their way along that trail in order to reach the Brigade's highest grade, that of Herald of Christ. "By, the time they become Heralds of Christ, they would have memorized 200 Scripture verses and have read the entire Bible," Battalion Captain Gordon W. Frost said. He is vice-president for the Anaconda Insurance Agency in Ft.

Lauderdale. In addition, Heralds of Christ must have gone Boys looking for physical; social and spiritual activity find all four combined in the Christian Service Brigade. Organized like an Army Brigade, the Christian Service Brigade sponsors a program of camping, exercise, and other out-of-doors activities, plus a ladder of achievement grades, in order to attract and hold boys for Christ and help them welt rounded men. Starting in 1937, the Brigade today has over 60,000 members in the United States and chapters in over thirty countries. Its organization and activities are reminiscent of the Boys Scouts, but there is a difference.

The Bible and Christ are the center of every single ac- tivity in the Christian Brigade. Part of the requirements for going up through the grades is reading the Bible and memorizing some of its verses. Three boys belonging to a Ft. Lauderdale unit of the Brigade, Battalion 2052, Calvary Presbyterian v' camp-out in the Everglades. The 20 boys participating didn't take any food.

They set up traps to catch some "food," but the only thing they were able to get was swamp cabbage. Mother Nature also provided the water, which they had to boil. Sleeping quarters consisted of their own sleeping bag; and whatever shelter they could find in the swampy area. After two days of cabbages and boiled water, "we just came back hungry," David said. But the fun they had together was worth it, he added.

During camp-outs Sunday services are conducted in the field, or boys go to near-by churches. Field services are Bible-centered and entirely inter-denominational, Captain Frost said. Other Brigade activities include bike rodeos, and field and track meets, swimming and diving meets. In addition the Battalion meets every Monday at 6:45 p.m. at Calvary Presbyterian, 706 S.W.

Among some of the things they've done David remembers most pointedly a survival ing for the Northwoods Camp advanced training is quite a big step. "I've been planning it for two years," David said.
