Chapman, publisher of Motor Boating, has been enthusiastically acclaimed the "bible of boating." In part, Its acceptance has stemmed from the breadth of its scope and the authoritative treatment of its content. In boating, however, trends, techniques and especially regulations change with progress. Keeping pace with ever-changing developments has necessitated constant, almost annual, revision. Editions have been successively enlarged and improved year after year. The new 1966-67 edition has been revised by acknowledged authorities.

Many boatmen are aware that International Rules governing vessels operating on the high seas outside of so-called "inland waters" became effective September 1, 1965. These are graphically illustrated and summarized in a new section. SIGNIFICANT ANCHORING CHANGES The chapter on anchoring has been edited and revised in accordance with significant changes which widespread acceptance of synthetic fibers has brought about. Four pages in the piloting section are devoted to a discussion of a special technique for the solution of current problems by vector triangles of velocity, three other pages to a scientific treatment of tides, their cause and effects. The twenty-one plates in color have been augmented to include a reproduction of a portion of a U.S.

Lake Survey chart as featured in the Army Engineer's new Recreational Chart Series. Also in color are four pages of end-papers illustrating the United States Power Squadron pennants, including those approved in late 1964 and early 1965. All of the new content has been prepared with a view toward presenting it in a manner well-adapted to the needs of U.S. Power Squadron and U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary students, yet equally valuable to the reader using it as a home-study course.

NEW CHAPTERS ON COMPASS In the new chapters on the mariner's compass, for example, stress is laid on the degree method, instead of points, in designating courses and bearings. In these days of expanding use of electronics, boatmen will especially welcome the 31-page chapter on Electronic Equipment and Its Use, touching all phases from the elements of electrical systems to comprehensive coverage of radiotelephones, depth sounders, direction finders, radar and other shipboard electronic devices. In short, the book is a must for the Florida boatman. with molded fiberglass side panels. The transom in mrvwl tn break followmg seas.

The 28-footer is now on dis tMMlOWATR DMVI play at De Padro Yacht Basin Dania. Florida's salt water sport fishing is tops, and has a fishing equipment industry to match. For the angler who has everything, there are rods and reels manufactured in the Sunshine state which are unmatched in the world when it comes to quality. This special equipment is often costly because it Is handmade from expensive metals, fiberglass and other materials.

The fine Tycoon-Fin-Nor is made in Miami. Also, Gar Wood Reels, Spinmaster Rods, Captain Mac, Reels, and Hurricane Rods. There are only a few samples of the first line fishing equipment manufactured in Miami, not to mention nationally-known products made by such, renowned lure and accessory companies as Pompanette in Ft. Lauderdale, (fighting chairs, gaffs, Bait Company (maker of the famous Mirr-O-Lure) in St. Petersburg, and Porter Bait Company in Daytona Beach.

Universal Lures, of Jacksonville, makes the "01' Faithful Pistolball," long a favorite with trout fishermen. AHsA-MATIC HERBERT STARS Richard Herbert won the 440. POMPANO BEACH PH. 943-2266 Miami Military won the meet Most fishing tackle manufactured in Miami and elsewhere in Florida is priced for the competitive mass market But there are lines of tackle for those who want only the best, and who have the money to buy it. A 120 Fin-Nor Reel with matching Tycoon Rod costs, $980 this Is without any line! To fill the reel with approximately 800 yards of tournament quality linen or monofilament line costs an additional $57.

Add a fighting chair, harness and leader $648.50 you are ready to catch a marlin or tuna with your new $1,628.50 fishing outfit! Gar Wood will make you a small, 40 reel for $250. It has a drag as smooth as baby's skin, and is as rugged as a Portuguese fish peddler. That is, he will make you a reel if he has time' which he usually doesn't. There is a machinest in Miami who makes what many consider the finest spinning reel in the world. But he is three years behind in orders, and doesn't want his name published for fear it will bring him more orders! The demand for high quality, custom-made fishing tackle is in its heyday now.

Never has there been a greater demand. Perhaps it is because fishermen are getting more sophisticated. Or, maybe it is because the discriminating angler is sick and tired of cheap imported tackle which usually breaks down at the first tug of a fighting fish. Miami has long been the manufacturing center of fine fishing tackle. Fred Grieten, a mechanical wizard and genius with tools, made the first Fin-Nor Reel in 1930.

That first reel was a 35-pound monster. Fin-Nor's are expensive because each is machined from a block of special aluminum. Tolerances are nearly as fine as those used in watch-making. The Soviet Union requested TycoonFin-Nor tackle for a display at a trade fair in Moscow. It was, of course, sent to them with "Made in U.S.A." proudly engraved in large letters.

As any experienced fisherman knows, all you need to sinker; all for less than $1. But if it is giant tuna or blue marlin you are after, then have fun, and catch fish, is a cane pole with hook, line and Florida is the place for the fish and the tackle. with 63 points to 45 for Gibbons and 38 for Pace. William S. Richardson, on June 1, Cox said. Five acres of land near Port Everglades is being made available by the county commission for the university's laboratory. "Ocean exploration has a vast potential economic value to South Florida. Some scientists now feel that it will become just as significant to the world as the exploration of outer space, and It's widely believed that before long, the feder-al government will be spending just as much money on oceanography as on aerospace.

"Nova University is capable of catapulting this specific area right into the middle of a huge oceanographic research program."
