Wi Men have been blaming the world's woes on women ever since Eve first tempted Adam with that apple so it's not really too surprising that a Labor Department employe should now decide the females are responsible for everything from split personalities to split hairs. I for one don't really care whether Dr. Phon E. Hudkins thinks I'm the cause of schizo-. phrenia and sterility, suicide and cancer, and alcoholism and arthritis.

But if I'm going to take the blame, I also want the credit. Take balding, for example. Hudkins claims female dominance makes men bald. But it was females who revived the craze for wigs and made phony hair so popular even men were willing to cover up. Or alcoholism.

W. C. Fields once said: "It was a woman who drove me to drink. I'll be a sonofagun. I never even wrote to thank her." If tippling is trouble, the men don't seem to want to end it.

Then there are colds. Who nurses all those poor dears when they're sniffling and sneezing? Who puts up with their sickbed foibles? And who usually catches the darn thing just about the time they're (the males) getting well? Hudkins seems to forget men are behind most of women's actions. It's men who design most of the fashions they laugh at wocen for wearing. It's men who write the ad- BETTS. It's men who create the cosmetics they deride women for applying. It's men who produce the television shows they chortle at women for watching. Simon said he did not get through personally to Finch but he did get "a definitive statement" from an aide to the effect Finch would not run against his old friend, Sen. George Murphy, for the Republican nomination.
