Kornman, Dorothy, passed Monday, January 12th, at her home in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. She left this life the same way she lived it with a strong sense of duty and an intense love for her family and friends. Mrs. Kornman was born to her parents, Harry and Frances Popkin, on September 19, 1917, in Trenton, NJ.

As a young girl, her family relocated to Nashville, TN. There, she was introduced to the love of her life, Melvin Kornman. She and Melvin were married after she attended Harris Advertising College. They then moved to Florence, AL, and started Best Jewelers. Together, they made a dynamic duo.

Over time they built their mom and pop business into a small chain of jewelry stores in Northern Alabama. However, their business was the most minor of their successes. Together, they had two wonderful children, Gary and Kay. Gary is a successful businessman living in Dallas, TX, where he has raised his two sons, Michael and Grant. Kay, a speech pathologist, lives in Annapolis, MD, with her husband, Howard Weinstein.

Mrs. Kornman was also dedicated to her community. She and her husband, Melvin, were founding members of the Temple Bai Israel in Florence, AL. There, she was head of the youth group and President of the Temple Sisterhood. In addition, they were members of Temple Ohabai Shalom in Nashville, TN.

Mr. and Mrs. Kornman retired to Ft. Lauderdale, FL in 1975. There, they enjoyed an active life with their many friends from Nashville and Florence.

When Mr. Kornman passed away in 1979, they had been married for 39 years. Over the last 25 years, Mrs. Kornman enjoyed spending time with her family and friends as well as volunteering at Temple Emanu-El of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, where she was a member.

Mrs. Kornman will be remembered as a woman ahead of her time with endless energy. She was a highlyrespected, business woman, raised a wonderful and loving family and had the highest commitment to her community. Simply put, Mrs. Kornman will be missed by all those who knew her and left behind a legacy that will not be forgotten.
