Hamady, a life of public service BY AKILAH JOHNSON STAFF WRITER A life of public service came (to an end Sunday when Daniel Hamady of Pompano Beach died in his sleep. He was 90. It was Mr. Hamady's knowledge of international affairs that began his journey into public service.

Before being appointed director of the Office of International Affairs and director of the Department of Housing and Urban Affairs under Presidents Eiseno hower and Kennedy, Mr. Hama1dy worked as an international business consultant in Paris, Ge1: neva and Washington, D.C. In 1963, Mr. Hamady took a short break from public service and founded a mortgage bank in Geneva. Seven years later, under the Nixon administration, Mr. Hamady returned to government as a housing administrator. Mr.

Hamady retired in 1977 and became involved in charity work. including the National Academy of Sciences, Elk's Club, Kiwanis and the Fort Lauderdale Philharmonic. He became a fulltime Florida resident six years ago. Mr. Hamady immigrated to the United States from Lebanon when he was 4, his daughter said.

When Mr. Hamady was about 9, his father made a comment about Lebanon, "and my dad said, 'What's Hamady she said. "And my granddad said, 'That's it. You're going back. to learn about your Mr.

Hamady was educated at the American University in Beirut before returning to the United States to study at the University of Michigan. He is survived by his daughter Susan Hamady of Michigan and Walter Hamady of Wisconsin. A private memorial will take place June 21. Mr. Hamady's ashes will be spread at sea.

Castaldo, Thomas formerly of Lodi, NJ and a Florida resident since 1970, died May 26, 2005. His wife, Bette Eden Castaldo; three daughters, Nancy Campanella of NJ, Mary Castaldo of FL and Sandra Bond Mialki of PA; brother, Frank of NJ; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren survive him. Steve. graduated from Temple University in Philadelphia for his undergraduate degree and he received his dental degree from NYU Dental. After a stint in the U.S. Army at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, Stephen and his family moved to Boca Raton in the Fall of 1976.

He immediately became an active part of the fast growing Jewish society of Boca. He joined Temple Beth El of Boca Raton and he helped found the first young men's B' nai B'rith lodge of Boca. Later. he was a member and president of the Deerfield Beach Chamber of Commerce and a member of the South County Jewish Community Center. He played softball in the JCC league for over 20 years.

He was an avid sports enthusiast and a Miami Dolphins fan and season ticket holder since 1980. Steve loved life because he embraced the relationships he made. He was a friend to all that met him and the dearest of friends to his close, inner circle. In the past few years. he developed a whole new set of close relationships through his association with the "Anthony Robbins Stephen is survived by his loving wife, Cynthia; his children, Jason and Alysha, his parents, Julius and Gert Sherman; his sister, Susan; his Uncle Irwin Meltzer; his aunts, Rita Meltzer and Edna Brookman; and his many close friends and family members.

Metroulas is survived by his wife Barbara Ann Metroulas to whom he was married for 40 years and their two daughters, oldest daughter, Kelly Littleton of St. Charles, MO and her two sons, A.J. and Kevin; youngest daughter, Terry Macias of Dallas, TX, her husband Richard Macias and their two daughters, Melissa and Melanie.
