Star of David Cemetery and Funeral Home, North Gayoso Gayoso, Jesus Augustin, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2007 after a brief and unexpected illness. He was born in Havana, Cuba on August 28, 1935. He moved with his mother, Mercedes to Denver, Colorado in 1945 and resettled in Miami in 1952. He attended Miami Senior High School where he was a standout on the baseball team, which ultimately led to a college baseball career at the University of Miami and a minor league contract in the Braves organization.

He later earned a Bachelor of Science Degree and a Masters Degree and spent almost his entire working career at Pfizer, Inc. where he started as an engineer and ended his career in marketing and sales. Most of those working years were spent in New York where he developed a large group of friends. He relocated to Hollywood, Florida in 1998. Even after retiring in 2000 he remained active with Pfizer in occasional marketing events.

All that knew him remember him for his unmatched energy and love for life. He lived every day for his family as if it was his last, and his energy was infectious. He lived his life with passion whether it was for his family, his job, supporting his grandchildren and niece at sporting events or playing a pick up game of basketball or softball. It was always about giving your heart and no one did that better than him. His example of humility, loyalty, sincerity, devotion, love and hard work will live long in those that knew him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Carmen; his adoring children, James A. Gayoso, Jay A. Gayoso and Adriana T. Silver; his beautiful grandchildren, Alexandra, Andrew, Augie, Selena, Jay, Adam, Talia and Julia; and his dear brothers and sister, Richard Martinez, James Martinez and Belinda Wilkie. He also left behind nephews and nieces, Christina Martinez, Michael Martinez, Nick Martinez, Christopher Wilkie, Daniel Wilkie and Rebecca Martinez.

He always considered his daughters-in-law, son-in-law, brothers-inlaw and sisters-in-law as part of his family and there is not enough space to put in the names of all who loved him whether they be close friends, business associates or someone who just happened to meet him. Everyone should know that he lived to see the realization of all his dreams. A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, 3 pm at Little Flower Catholic Church, 1805 Pierce Street, Hollywood, FL 33020. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Vincent de Paul Society, Little Flower Catholic Church, 1805 Pierce Street, Hollywood, FL 33020.
